What Is Stem Cell Therapy?

Stem cell therapy uses cells drawn from the patient's own blood or adipose tissue to support tissue repair and reduce inflammation. It is used as a non-surgical treatment for joint, bone, and soft tissue conditions, and for a smaller set of systemic conditions.

Dr. Mohiuddin offers three stem cell protocols, chosen based on the condition being treated and the source of cells needed.

Stem Cell Therapy Protocols

SVF, Stromal Vascular Fraction

SVF is an adipose tissue-derived stem cell therapy. Cells are drawn from the patient’s own fat tissue and prepared for treatment.

It can be given intravenously, injected directly into a joint, injected into the affected musculoskeletal area, used alongside core decompression in selected avascular necrosis cases, or applied through microneedling for localized areas.

X-Cell Plus

X-Cell Plus combines adipose-derived and blood-derived stem cells in a single treatment. It is used when a patient may benefit from both cell sources.

It is given as an intra-articular injection or a local musculoskeletal injection.

X-Cell

X-Cell is an autologous blood-derived stem cell therapy using VSEL cells, very small embryonic-like cells drawn from the patient’s own blood.

It can be given intravenously, injected into a joint, injected into the affected musculoskeletal area, or applied through microneedling.

What to Expect During Treatment

Every stem cell therapy case starts with a full clinical assessment. This includes a review of the patient's medical history, a physical examination, and relevant imaging such as X-rays or MRI.

Based on this assessment, Dr. Mohiuddin discusses whether stem cell therapy is appropriate, which protocol fits the condition, and what the treatment plan looks like. Cells are then collected, prepared, and administered according to the selected protocol.

Recovery time and the number of sessions needed depend on the condition being treated and the individual patient. Follow-up is scheduled to monitor progress.

Is Stem Cell Therapy Right for You?

Not every patient is a candidate for stem cell therapy. Suitability depends on the specific diagnosis, how advanced the condition is, and the patient's overall health. Some conditions and disease stages are better suited to conventional treatment.

The only way to know if you are a candidate is through a consultation with Dr. Mohiuddin.

QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

What is stem cell therapy used for in orthopedics?

Stem cell therapy is used for joint conditions such as osteoarthritis, bone healing problems such as avascular necrosis, and soft tissue injuries. It is used as a non-surgical treatment or alongside conventional orthopedic care.

SVF uses cells from adipose tissue. X-Cell uses cells from the patient’s own blood. X-Cell Plus combines both cell sources. Dr. Mohiuddin selects the protocol based on the condition being treated.

Stem cell therapy using a patient’s own cells carries a different risk profile than treatments using external material, since there is no donor tissue involved. Safety still depends on the individual patient and condition, which is why every case starts with a clinical assessment.
