What Is PRP Therapy?

PRP therapy, platelet rich plasma therapy, concentrates platelets from the patient's own blood and uses them to support healing and reduce inflammation in joints, tendons, and soft tissue.

Dr. Mohiuddin's primary technique is PA-PRP, photo-activated PRP. He also uses several related blood-based techniques, depending on the condition being treated.

PRP Techniques Dr. AKM Mohiuddin Offers

PA-PRP, Photo-Activated PRP

PA-PRP is Dr. Mohiuddin’s specifically trained technique, completed in Australia and Thailand. Platelets are drawn from the patient’s own blood and exposed to light for a short period before injection. This photoactivation step is used to increase the release of growth factors from the platelets before they are administered.

He uses PA-PRP most often for joint pain, tendon disorders, and soft tissue injuries.

Other Blood-Based Techniques

Platelet Lysate, PL, is produced through controlled processing of platelets to release a higher concentration of growth factors. It is a cell-free product used in select cases where added biological stimulation is needed.

PRP Plus combines PRP with hyaluronic acid gel, aiming to support joint lubrication and shock absorption alongside the biological effects of PRP, for more advanced degenerative joint conditions.

Autologous Conditioned Serum, ACS, is prepared by stimulating the patient’s own blood cells to produce anti-inflammatory proteins. It is used to help reduce inflammation linked to osteoarthritis and other chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

Leukocyte-Poor PRP, LP-PRP, concentrates platelets and growth factors while reducing inflammatory white blood cells. It is used for osteoarthritis and other intra-articular applications where less post-treatment inflammation is preferred.

Platelet-Rich Fibrin, PRF, is prepared from the patient’s own blood using a low-speed centrifugation process. The resulting fibrin matrix releases platelets, growth factors, and cytokines gradually over time, supporting tissue healing and recovery.

What to Expect During Treatment

Every PRP therapy case starts with a clinical assessment, including a review of the patient's history, a physical examination, and relevant imaging where needed.

Once a treatment plan is agreed, blood is drawn from the patient and processed to prepare the selected PRP product. It is then injected into the treatment area. Recovery time and the number of sessions needed depend on the condition and the individual patient.

Is PRP Therapy Right for You?

Not every patient is a candidate for PRP therapy. Suitability depends on the specific diagnosis, the condition's severity, and the patient's overall health.

The only way to know if you are a candidate is through a consultation with Dr. Mohiuddin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PRP therapy used for?

PRP therapy is used for joint pain, tendon injuries, sports injuries, and spine conditions such as facet joint arthritis and disc prolapse. It is used as a non-surgical treatment or alongside conventional orthopedic care.

PA-PRP, photo-activated PRP, is prepared by exposing the patient’s platelets to light before injection, which is used to increase growth factor release compared to standard PRP preparation. It is the technique Dr. Mohiuddin was specifically trained in, in Australia and Thailand.

PRP therapy uses the patient’s own blood, which reduces certain risks compared to treatments using external material. Safety and suitability still depend on the individual patient and condition, which is why every case starts with a clinical assessment.

He has performed more than 25,000 regenerative medicine procedures since 2015, across both stem cell and PRP therapy.
